Why hire a stump grinding machine from a hire shop and face the risks of using a dangerous machine, when we can provide a more powerful machine including a fully trained operator?
We believe hiring a stump grinder from a hire shop is both false economy, and also potentially dangerous. Below we look at the reasons behind this statement in detail.
Reasons to hire a stump grinder from us including a trained operator, vs just stump grinder hire from a hire shop:
No Delivery Charges!
No need to pick up a machine from a shop which may include extra charges for hiring a trailer. We bring our machinery to your location included in the price, with all the equipment needed for its operation, maintenance.. including fuel.
Hourly, half day, daily rates for stump grinder hire or fixed rates for the whole job!
You may only have a few stumps to grind so we can just charge you either a fixed rate or an hourly rate. This may be less than the total cost of hiring a stump grinding machine for a whole day.
More powerful machinery means higher productivity
The stump grinder that we bring to site will be a much more powerful machine than you can hire from most hire shops. As an example shops hiring stump grinders will provide only small, manually operated stump grinding machines of around 9 to 13 horse power. The most regular machine we bring is a fully hydraulic 40hp tracked stump grinder.
Health Risks
Stump grinding machines are very dangerous pieces of equipment, just one slip near the cutting disc or a momentary lapse of concentration could lead to sudden life changing injuries. Our operators are fully trained and experienced and always wear the necessary PPE, also our machines have all the necessary safety features which are well maintained.
Sharp cutting teeth
The special tungsten carbide teeth which stump grinders use to cut the stumps into woodchip go blunt surprisingly quickly. This is caused when grinding through the soil and stones in the ground around the stump. Most hire shops hiring stump grinders neglect the fact that blunt teeth do not cut through wood. Blunt teeth lead to a lot of time and effort being spent trying to grind a stump, and often means highly disappointing results or even failure to achieve the desired outcome. We do not grind stumps with blunt teeth due to the time involved and the excessive wear on the machinery that this causes, we always keep fresh new sets of teeth with us at all times.
No machinery problems to worry about
If there is a problem with our stump grinding machine then we can usually fix it on site and do not charge for any downtime as a result of machinery breakdown. Hire shops may try to blame the breakdown on the operator and raise charges to reflect this. Also there is the risk of accidental damage to the shop hired stump grinder or risk of theft which you may be held liable for.
Hiring a stump grinder alone is potentially dangerous
One of the dangers in using stump grinding machines are fact that they can easily flick up stones and other projectiles whilst working. A hire shop will not usually give you any protective screens to use around the stump to prevent this and there is a real risk of causing damage to nearby windows and glass as well as onlookers. Our stump grinding machines are heavily guarded and we also always use special protective screens around the stumps when working to minimise any risk.
Hidden Costs
Although hiring a stump grinding machine from a shop may initially seem much cheaper than hiring a stump grinder including an operator from us, after the shop has charged extra for drop off and collection, fuel and used teeth on the machine it may not be so cheap. Also when you factor in having to spend all day trying to grind the stumps yourself, you may find the time would have been better spent working at the job you are good at, and using this money to pay us to do what we are good at!
Clearing up the mess
When Hiring a stump grinder and using it, the resulting woodchip is thrown around the garden by the machine, this results in a time consuming clear up. Stumps may also require cutting down with a chainsaw first before grinding them is possible. A standard hire shop will not hire a chainsaw due to laws restricting their hire. We are fully qualified to use chainsaws, have the correct safety gear and also bring with us powerful leaf blowers in order to clear the woodchip up from the surrounding areas in to neat piles for you as part of the service.
